There are a variety of reasons why employers ask for psychological evaluations/screenings. One example is a pre-employment psychological screening, where the evaluation/screening can assist the employer or agency in identifying the best candidates for hiring or promoting. Another such example would be determining the fitness for duty of an employee through a fitness-for-duty evaluation.
